Tip: Try a mood preset

Lock 1-2 colors you like, then reroll until the rest feel right. For more structured palettes, browse our curated mood library.

Tip: Check contrast before you commit

Beautiful colors don’t always pair well for text. Use the contrast checker to verify WCAG AA/AAA before you ship.

How to use this

  1. 1Roll the dice. Press the spacebar, click the big button, or tap the palette. Each roll generates a new harmonious 5-color scheme using split-complementary HSL logic.
  2. 2Lock what you love. Click any color to lock it. Locked colors stay put while the unlocked ones reroll.
  3. 3Copy and use. Click a swatch to copy its hex. Click “Copy all” to grab the full palette as a comma-separated list.

Color theory notes

Every palette this tool generates uses a split-complementary harmony anchored to a randomly chosen base hue. Split-complementary is a forgiving scheme — it gives you the visual interest of a complementary pair without the harsh contrast, which is why it’s a favorite in editorial design and illustration.

The generator varies lightness and saturation across the five slots so you get a usable range: a deep anchor, a mid-tone, a softer counterpoint, a near-white, and a near-black. The exact distribution shifts per roll, but the structure stays consistent.
